License plates can require a Marion County receipt or waiver

Marion County's assessor guidance and Missouri DOR both point drivers to tax proof before license plate renewal.

Do not wait until you are at the license office to learn whether your Marion County tax proof is ready. The Marion County Assessor’s general information page says license plate paperwork calls for a paid tax receipt or waiver from the previous year, plus the other vehicle documents that may apply.

The Missouri Department of Revenue gives the statewide version of that rule: renewal can require verification of personal property tax for the previous year, or for the previous two years on a two-year registration. That proof can be a paid county receipt or a statement of non-assessment. If you recently moved, bought a vehicle, or did not owe tax for that year, ask the county which document fits your situation before renewal month.
