Northern Missouri
Harrison County Lake is both water supply and weekend water
Harrison County Lake north of Bethany is a 1994 water-supply and recreation reservoir, so it works as both public water infrastructure and a local fishing, camping, boating, and swimming place.
Harrison County Lake is a good example of a local place doing two jobs at once. MDC says the lake is about 10 miles north of Bethany, just west of Route W, and was built in 1994 as a water-supply and recreation reservoir. The City of Bethany says the lake became a third source of water for the community.
That infrastructure story is useful because a reservoir is not only a weekend backdrop. It is part of how a small northern Missouri city planned for water needs, growth, fishing, camping, and lake recreation all at the same time.
MDC lists the lake at 280 acres, with flooded timber that provides fish habitat. It says the fishery is managed through a Community Assistance Program agreement with Harrison County, and it lists facilities such as an accessible fishing jetty, campground, primitive campsites, shelter house, boat ramp, fish-cleaning station, small swimming beaches, and privies.
For a resident or visitor, the lake is one of the easiest Harrison County anchors to understand: it is water supply, public recreation, and county-managed outdoor space in one place. Check MDC and local sources before planning around fishing rules, camping, boating, swimming, or seasonal conditions.
