The Lamar Free Fair turns downtown into the fairground
The Lamar Free Fair fills downtown Lamar and Constitution Square with rides, booths, contests, parades, livestock, and fair food.
Every August, Lamar uses its downtown as the fairground. Constitution Square is the anchor, but the fair spreads into the civic buildings and streets around it.
The 2026 schedule sends art and 4-H exhibits into Thiebaud Auditorium, livestock into Moore Pavilion, and visitors into the Barton County Historical Society Museum in the courthouse basement. Rides, food booths, and vendors gather around the square. The Saturday parade comes through the same downtown setting. Dates and ride hours move each year, so the fair page is still the place to check before going.
The lasting part is the layout. Lamar does not move community life out to a distant fairground for the week; it turns the center of town into one.
