Adair County's register list reaches beyond the courthouse

The National Register list in Adair County does not stop at the courthouse lawn. It includes the Adair County Courthouse, Bear Creek Baptist Church, the Cabins Historic District near Novinger, and other Kirksville-area entries.

That mix is useful because it spreads the story out. Kirksville’s institutions matter, but churches, cabins, districts, and smaller nearby places also show how people lived, gathered, and built in the county.

For a local history note, the register list is a good source trail. It can point you toward a building, church, hotel, district, or neighborhood that deserves more than a passing mention. It also keeps research tied to named places instead of vague “historic Adair County” language.
