Adair County personal property bills arrive late in the year

Late-year tax mail can set the pace for vehicle paperwork.

Adair County’s Collector says tax bills are usually mailed in late November — the county’s personal property tax page is more specific, putting the mailing in the third week of November. Either way, that leaves a short, busy stretch for payment, receipt printing, and any license-bureau errand that needs proof of paid personal property tax. The county asks anyone who has not received a bill by December 1 to contact the Collector’s office.

If the bill looks right and the question is payment or receipt, the Collector is the place to start. If the vehicle, trailer, or personal-property list looks wrong, the Assessor may need to fix the record before the bill makes sense.

For Kirksville and the rest of the county, the practical move is to review the record early in the season. Waiting until the end of December can turn a simple receipt errand into a two-office problem.
