County building permits run through Transportation and Public Works

For St. Louis County work under County jurisdiction, building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing permits are handled through Transportation and Public Works.

A small remodel can turn into a bigger errand if the address is under St. Louis County code. Transportation and Public Works is the County door for building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing permits, plus inspections tied to County-enforced codes.

The work list is broader than many homeowners expect. A permit can come up when you build, add on, repair, move, tear down, replace, or convert space. That does not mean every project uses the same form, but it does mean “just a repair” is not a safe guess.

Start with jurisdiction. Inside a municipality, city hall may handle the permit or coordinate with County staff. In unincorporated St. Louis County, Transportation and Public Works is the place to ask what permit, inspection, or code rule fits the job.
