Morgan County personal property reporting has a March 1 marker

Morgan County says personal property tax is based on vehicles owned on Jan. 1 and taxable personal property should be reported to the Assessor by March 1.

January 1 is the marker for Morgan County personal property. Vehicle tax is based on what you owned on that date, and taxable personal property should be reported directly to the Morgan County Assessor’s Office no later than March 1 each year.

That rule is easy to miss when a move is part of the story. A household coming into Versailles, Stover, Laurie, or a lake-area address may be thinking about the new place, while the tax record still cares about the January 1 location and ownership.

New Morgan County residents should contact the Morgan County Assessor. Missouri residents moving from another county should also notify the prior county about the address change. If the move happened after January 1, both counties may need a clear explanation before the bill and receipt trail makes sense. A few minutes with the assessor record can save confusion later at tax or plate-renewal time.
