Sewer and private-water questions can start at Marion County Health

Marion County Health Department works with homeowners, realtors, and installers on sewer-system permitting and private-water evaluations.

Rural Marion County homes can have water and wastewater questions that do not show up in a normal room-by-room inspection. Outside public sewer service, the local question may be the private well, the onsite sewage system, or both.

Marion County Health Department’s environmental health work includes sewer-system permitting and installation questions for realtors, homeowners, and installers. It also includes evaluation of private water supplies and wastewater treatment systems. That makes the health department a practical stop when a property uses a private setup instead of a public utility connection.

A buyer should ask for the water source, septic or sewer-system details, permit history, water testing, and repair records early in the process. A seller’s description may be helpful, but it is not the same as the local permit and evaluation trail. On a rural property, the quiet questions about water and wastewater can be just as important as the visible house.
