Jackson County government has Kansas City and Independence anchors
County business can point to the Kansas City courthouse or to Independence offices such as the Historic Truman Courthouse, so residents should check the office location before going.
Two county addresses shape a lot of Jackson County errands: 415 E. 12th Street in Kansas City and the Historic Truman Courthouse in Independence.
The Kansas City courthouse is the county’s listed courthouse contact. Independence still shows up for some county business, including the Recorder of Deeds at the Historic Truman Courthouse. That split has roots in the county’s history; Jackson County government grew from what is now Independence, where the first courthouse was built after the county was organized.
Choose by department, not by habit. A recording question, tax visit, court trip, or county meeting may point to a different building. The exact department page is the map for that errand.
