Mound City's depot museum sits on the I-29 side of Holt County

Holt County's own attractions page ties Mound City to I-29 travel services and to a depot museum backed by the county historical society.

Mound City is one of the easiest Holt County towns for travelers to notice because it sits directly on Interstate 29. Holt County’s attractions page points visitors there for food, fuel, lodging, the golf course, the sports complex, city park, and the State Theater.

The more local layer is the depot. The county says the Holt County Historical Society supports the Mound City Museum in the former Burlington Northern Railroad Depot. Missouri State Parks’ National Register list also includes the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Depot, identified as the Mound City Museum, on South State Street.

If you are pairing Loess Bluffs, Big Lake, or Bob Brown with local history, check the county page and the museum source before assuming hours or access.

That makes Mound City a useful stop for more than a highway break.
