Gallatin's courthouse square still carries Daviess County business

Gallatin is where Daviess County paperwork keeps coming back. The courthouse address is 102 N. Main Street, and the county’s own office list puts the assessor, collector-treasurer, clerk, court offices, and several other county roles in that Gallatin orbit.

The building gives the errand a little more memory. Missouri State Parks hosts the National Register file for the Daviess County Courthouse, which dates the present courthouse to 1907-1908. The square is more than a convenient address. It is the visible center of county government in a county where many homes, farms, and small towns sit well away from the courthouse door.

That helps sort the map. A city question belongs with the city. A township, road-district, or special-district question may have its own lane. Deeds, county taxes, assessment records, county court routing, and commission business usually point back to Gallatin first.

Check the county’s current office page before driving in. Small-county offices can shift hours, rooms, links, or phone paths, and the right counter matters more than the fact that everything feels close together on the square.
