Crawford County courthouse questions start with the right office

Crawford County keeps several county offices in the Steelville courthouse orbit, so a property question may need the assessor, collector, recorder, or clerk.

county officesassessor vs collectorrecorder of deeds

Crawford County questions often start with one of several courthouse offices. The assessor handles assessment work. The collector handles tax collection. The recorder handles recorded land documents. The county clerk has a different county-government role.

That sounds basic, but it saves time. A property-tax bill question is not the same as a deed question. A value question is not the same as a payment question. If you are new to the county, start by naming the job you need done: valuation, payment, recorded document, election or clerk record, road question, or court question.

The official county site and the Missouri Association of Counties directory are good routing tools before you drive to Steelville or call the wrong counter.
