Central Missouri / Missouri River Corridor
Runge Nature Center is a Cole County MDC anchor
Runge Conservation Nature Center in Jefferson City is a Missouri Department of Conservation site, so programs and trails start with MDC.
Runge Conservation Nature Center gives Jefferson City a public place built around Missouri habitats instead of state offices.
Five trails cover 2.4 miles. Two are woodchipped and three have hard surfaces. Together they loop through woods, prairie, glades, ponds, and a wet-weather stream. Inside, the nature center has live-animal exhibits, a large fish aquarium, a wildlife-viewing area, and a gift shop. MDC also uses the center for public programs and school field trips, and posts the current hours.
The trails and exhibits put several Missouri habitats within one Jefferson City stop. Fish in an aquarium, a glade, prairie, ponds, and a wet-weather stream all belong to the same lesson.
