Central Missouri / Missouri River Corridor
The Missouri River links Cole County to the Katy Trail
Jefferson City sits on the Missouri River across from the Katy Trail, with a pedestrian connection, and the river bottoms have flooded, so the river is both amenity and flood factor.
Jefferson City sits on the south bank of the Missouri River. The Katy Trail runs along the north bank, and a pedestrian and bicycle connection links the capital to the trail.
That makes the river a recreation doorway. It also makes the river a property question. Low north-bank ground, including the Cedar City area, has flooded in major events.
For residents, the Missouri River is both a trail connection and a reason to check flood-zone status on low-lying ground. Use Missouri State Parks for Katy Trail access and FEMA for parcel-level flood zones.
That split is the useful part: the same river that makes a weekend ride easier can also shape insurance, building, and land-use questions near the bottoms.
