Rural Cole County septic work starts with Environmental Public Health

Cole County homes and businesses without central sewer may need the county Health Department's onsite wastewater review before installing or repairing a system.

In rural parts of Cole County, a property may not be able to connect to a public sewer. The county’s onsite wastewater page says these systems treat waste from homes and businesses in that situation. Good design, setup, and upkeep help protect public health and local water.

Cole County says onsite wastewater installs and repairs follow state law and a local county ordinance. The page also says new systems need a soil check. A registered installer must be used for install or repair work.

For a buyer or landowner, this is early homework. Before assuming a house site, addition, or repair is simple, check the Health Department’s Environmental program and the current permit form. Septic is not just a contractor choice; it is a county health and site review.
