Plattsburg is the county seat

Plattsburg, not the larger crossroads city of Cameron, is the county seat, so courthouse business and county records run through it.

Plattsburg is the county seat of Clinton County. The county seat is the town where the main county government sits. So the courthouse, the recorder of deeds (the office that keeps land records), and most county offices are in Plattsburg. This is true even though Cameron is bigger and busier. Cameron sits to the northeast, where two main highways cross.

Why does this matter to you? Deeds, county tax business, and many official records run through Plattsburg. But most shops and daily business sit along the highways near Cameron.

The county uses Missouri’s standard setup. It has a county commission and elected offices like the assessor, the collector, and the recorder.

Before you drive in for a land record or a county question, check which office and which building you need. The county website lists the offices and where they are.
