Cameron is Clinton County's crossroads, but the county line still matters
Cameron's I-35 and Highway 36 crossroads identity is real, but property records still depend on whether an address falls in Clinton County or DeKalb County.
Cameron earns its crossroads reputation honestly. I-35 runs north and south, and Highway 36 runs east and west. Clinton County describes Cameron as the “Crossroads of the Nation,” and that highway layer makes the city feel larger than a normal county-line town.
The county line is the catch. Cameron reaches across the Clinton-DeKalb line, so two addresses with the same city name can point to different courthouses. A parcel in Clinton County goes through Clinton County assessment, taxes, and land records. A parcel across the line goes through DeKalb County.
Cameron is a place to check the map before making assumptions. For a home, business, rental, or land purchase, confirm the parcel against a county GIS or official parcel source. City limits, mailing address, school district, and county government are different layers, and Cameron is one of the places where those layers can be easy to mix up.
