Three Creeks sits on Boone County's south edge of growth
Three Creeks Conservation Area between Columbia and Ashland protects a rugged creek-and-bluff landscape in an urbanizing part of Boone County.
Three Creeks Conservation Area is Boone County color with a practical map lesson. MDC places it halfway between Columbia and Ashland and says the area is named for Turkey Creek, Bass Creek, and Bonne Femme Creek.
The conservation area protects rugged forest, scenic bluffs, intermittent streams, geologic formations, and old eastern red cedar trees. MDC also says the purchase was tied to public interest in protecting the Three Creeks area from further urban development.
For a resident, that explains why this part of south Boone County can feel different from suburban Columbia even as growth pushes outward. It is not just open land on a map. It is a managed conservation area with its own access rules, special-use limits, and public-land purpose.
