Eagle Bluffs shows Boone County's Missouri River bottomland

Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area near McBaine turns Missouri River and Perche Creek bottomland into managed wetlands, wildlife habitat, and public access.

Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area is a Boone County reminder that Columbia sits close to river-bottom country. The Missouri Department of Conservation places the area at the southwest edge of Columbia near McBaine, with the Missouri River and Perche Creek providing more than 10 miles of stream frontage.

MDC describes restored wetlands, shallow pools, levees, water-control structures, and a connection to Columbia’s treated wastewater system as part of the area’s wetland management. The Katy Trail also passes through part of the area.

That makes Eagle Bluffs more than a wildlife stop. It helps explain local floodplain geography, the McBaine river corridor, and why Boone County outdoor access can be tied to both conservation management and river infrastructure. Check MDC for area rules and access details before going.
