ATV permits were county-road paperwork

Ste. Genevieve County no longer issues ATV/UTV permits — the county clerk’s page says so plainly. But the old permit form, still hosted on the county site, shows what that program was: a county-road document, not a blanket permission slip for every road. The application said the special permit was for operation on county roads in Ste. Genevieve County. Its requirements page said an ATV permit allowed the ATV to be ridden on county roads, and did not allow it on state lettered roads, highways, or interstates.

That distinction still matters in a county where lettered routes are part of normal rural navigation — the county-versus-state road split does not go away just because the permit did. Before riding, check the county clerk’s page for whatever the current arrangement is, rather than relying on the old form.

The old form also pointed applicants to proof of liability insurance and personal-property tax proof for the ATV, so a permit like this connected back to both vehicle paperwork and county tax records.
