The County senior tax freeze is not a personal-property freeze

St. Louis County’s senior property tax freeze is worth checking, but the name can make it sound broader than it is. The County’s program FAQ describes the freeze as applying to most of the real estate property taxes of a senior’s primary residence — a real-estate program, with no mention of personal property.

That distinction matters in St. Louis County because vehicle owners still deal with personal property assessment, payment, receipts, and license-plate proof. A senior homeowner may have a county real-estate tax question and a separate vehicle tax question in the same year.

The practical move is to read the County senior freeze page for the house and the Assessor or Collector personal-property pages for vehicles. One approval does not cover both tax tracks.
