The County senior tax freeze is not a personal-property freeze
St. Louis County's senior property tax freeze is a real-estate program, so residents should not treat it as freezing vehicle or other personal property taxes.
St. Louis County’s senior property tax freeze is worth checking, but the name can make it sound broader than it is. The County’s program materials describe a senior real-property tax credit and state that the program does not include personal property.
That distinction matters in St. Louis County because vehicle owners still deal with personal property assessment, payment, receipts, and license-plate proof. A senior homeowner may have a county real-estate tax question and a separate vehicle tax question in the same year.
The practical move is to read the County senior freeze page for the house and the Assessor or Collector personal-property pages for vehicles. Do not assume one approval covers both tax tracks.
