The emissions boundary is a St. Louis-area issue

Missouri vehicle emissions checks are not statewide. DOR points to St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and Jefferson County.

Missouri has statewide title and safety-inspection rules, but emissions are a local layer. If the vehicle is registered in the St. Louis-area emissions counties or St. Louis City, check the emissions requirement before you head to the license office.

That boundary matters for people moving across the metro. Crossing a county line can change the inspection checklist even if the daily commute feels the same.

The renewal notice is still important. It can tell you whether your specific vehicle needs the inspection or has an exemption path.
