The Shannon County Assessor tracks both real and personal property

Shannon County assessment questions start with the assessor, while bill, payment, and receipt questions move to the collector.

Property paperwork in Shannon County splits before the bill ever arrives. The assessor handles the value side of the record, including real property, personal property, and real-property ownership records. That is the place to start when a parcel value looks off, a new structure needs to be reflected, or a personal-property list needs fixing.

The collector picks up the money side. Current taxes, delinquent taxes, receipts, distribution to the right local entities, and merchant license fees belong with that office. A paid receipt is not something the assessor can create just because the assessor keeps the record.

This split helps most when a resident has one messy question. A farm truck, a cabin, a reassessment notice, and a tax bill can feel like one tax problem at the kitchen table. In county offices, they travel through two desks: first the assessment record, then the collection record.
