The senior freeze is a local-option program

Missouri's senior property tax freeze depends on county adoption and county procedures. It is not the same thing as the state circuit breaker credit.

The state statute creates the path, but the county decides whether to use it. That is why one county’s senior-freeze answer should not be copied to another county.

The practical question is not just “am I 62?” It is also “has my county adopted the credit, what year is my base year, and what paperwork does the county require?” Counties can set local forms and deadlines, so the county collector or assessor page is usually the next stop.

Keep this separate from the Missouri Property Tax Credit. That credit is handled through Missouri DOR and income-tax filing. The names sound similar, but they are different programs with different paperwork. When in doubt, check the county for the freeze and DOR for the credit.
