Away from Lancaster and the main highways, getting around Schuyler County often means lettered state routes and county gravel roads.

For a buyer, the practical question is whether the road to a rural property is county-maintained or private. That affects who grades it, plows it, repairs it, and whether year-round access is dependable.

The trick is to separate the road layers. A state lettered route belongs in MoDOT’s system. A county gravel road is a local maintenance question. A private or shared lane may depend on a written agreement between landowners.
