Saline County's 1882 courthouse still anchors Marshall's square

courthousecourthouse squarelocal history

Saline County’s official about page says the present courthouse was built in 1882 and is located on the central square in Marshall. It also notes that many original courthouse furnishings remain in use.

That makes the courthouse more than a services address. It is a living civic object in the middle of the county seat. If you are going to the assessor, collector, recorder, or court, you are also stepping into the old square that has organized Marshall for generations.

The history gives a little texture to practical courthouse errands. The square is where local government, architecture, and everyday errands meet. It also gives Marshall a visible center, not just a list of offices.
