Platte County rural roads include special districts

In unincorporated Platte County, some roads are handled by county Public Works and others by benefit assessment special road districts.

Platte County road responsibility can change without the landscape looking very different. Rural unincorporated roads may be maintained by county Public Works or by one of four benefit assessment special road districts. City streets and village streets are their own layer.

That makes road maintenance a geography question before it is a repair request. A pothole, drainage issue, sign problem, or driveway access question may belong to Public Works, a special road district, a city, or the state.

For a resident outside Parkville, Platte City, Riverside, or Kansas City, start with the road name and nearest crossroad. Then identify whether the road is city, county, special-district, or state-maintained before filing the request.
