Parma Woods sits in Platte County's Missouri River hills
Parma Woods Conservation Area and shooting range gives southern Platte County a rugged bluff-land public outdoor anchor.
Parma Woods shows a rougher side of southern Platte County. It sits in the hills along the Missouri River, where the county edge is bluff land instead of airport pavement or suburban streets.
MDC describes Parma Woods as 200 acres of rugged bluff land with a hiking trail through forested ground. The area also has a shooting range and outdoor education center, which gives it a different public job than a picnic park or lake trail.
That makes the place useful color for Platte County. It explains why the county’s outdoor map is not only Weston Bend, Parkville, and Smithville-area trails. There is also managed public land where shooting sports, education, forest, and river hills meet.
Check MDC for range hours, closures, rules, and trail conditions before making the trip.
