Clarksville is a recognized winter bald-eagle viewing spot on the Mississippi River, especially when open water below the dam draws feeding birds.
In winter, bald eagles gather along the Mississippi River at Clarksville. Open water below the lock and dam can give them fishing access when other water is frozen.
That makes Clarksville one of Missouri’s recognized eagle-viewing locations. It is a fun local winter detail, but it is not a guarantee. Eagle numbers change with weather, ice, and river conditions.
Use Missouri Department of Conservation guidance for when sightings tend to peak and how to watch without bothering the birds. Bring binoculars, give the birds space, and watch from public viewing areas where available.
