Maramec Spring is just outside Phelps County
Maramec Spring, near St. James, is one of Missouri's largest springs and a trout park, a major outdoor draw within easy reach of Rolla.
Maramec Spring, near St. James just east of Rolla, is one of the largest springs in Missouri and the heart of a trout park. The spring discharges a large flow of cold water that supports trout, and the Missouri Department of Conservation stocks and manages the trout fishery there. It pairs natural-spring scenery with put-and-take trout fishing, an iron-furnace history site, and picnic grounds, making it a recurring day trip for the Rolla area. Note that Maramec Spring Park is privately held rather than a state park, while MDC runs the trout operation, so check both the park and MDC for hours, the trout season, and the special daily tag or permit rules. Confirm season dates and any closures before going, since those change year to year.
