Central Missouri / Missouri River Corridor
The Katy Trail and Sedalia's restored Katy Depot
The Katy Trail State Park runs through Sedalia, where the restored MKT Katy Depot serves as a trailhead and visitor anchor, tying the county's rail past to a major recreation corridor.
The Katy Trail is a long, flat path for biking and walking. It is called a rail-trail because it was built on an old railroad line. That line was the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, also called the MKT or “Katy.” Today the path is part of Katy Trail State Park, and it runs right through Sedalia. In Sedalia you will find the old Katy Depot. A depot is a train station, and this one has been fixed up. It now serves as a trailhead, which is a main place to get on the trail. Here you can find parking, services, and the historic depot itself. Missouri State Parks takes care of the Katy Trail. It is the best place to check on trail conditions, facilities, and any closures. Look at its official trail pages before you plan a ride. That is more reliable than other maps.
