Northwest gives Maryville a college-town rhythm

Maryville is the Nodaway County seat, but Northwest Missouri State University gives the town a second clock. Farm errands, courthouse business, and ordinary city life all share space with move-in weekends, games, campus events, and a rental market tied to the school year.

Northwest’s own history gives the campus a local story. The Thomas Gaunt House grounds became part of the proposed site for the Maryville Fifth District Normal School in 1905. The Administration Building opened in 1910, survived a 1919 tornado and a 1979 fire, and was added to the National Register in 2010. The Bearcat name goes back to 1916.
