Newton County tax receipts can be a plate-renewal step

A Newton County driver may need more than insurance and inspection paperwork to renew plates. The Missouri Department of Revenue says renewal can require proof of personal property tax for the previous year, or the previous two years for a two-year registration.

Newton County’s collector site provides personal property tax search, receipts, statements, and online payment links. That makes it the practical place to look after the Assessor has the property on the roll and a tax bill has been created.

If your Joplin address is in the Newton County portion, or if you live around Neosho, Diamond, Seneca, Granby, or another county community, make sure the receipt comes from the correct county for the tax year. If you did not owe tax, ask the proper county office about the statement Missouri requires.
