Donaldson Point sits inside the New Madrid Bend story
Donaldson Point Conservation Area southeast of New Madrid shows how the Mississippi River bends, borders, and bottomland shape the county.
Donaldson Point Conservation Area is a good map lesson for New Madrid County. MDC places the area about six miles southeast of New Madrid, at the north end of Donaldson Point, which is formed by the New Madrid Bend Loop of the Mississippi River.
MDC says the same river loop isolates a portion of Kentucky, and that the Mississippi River forms part of both the east and west boundaries of the conservation area. The area also provides river frontage and habitat for species tied to Mississippi lowlands.
That makes Donaldson Point more than a public-land listing. It shows how the river can define borders, access, wildlife habitat, and local identity. Use MDC for directions, area rules, hours, and current management details before visiting.
