In McDonald County, livestock and poultry make up nearly all farm sales, and poultry and eggs rank among the highest in Missouri. That farming identity shapes land use, rural roads, and the rules near working farms.
Farming runs deep in McDonald County, and poultry leads the way. In the 2022 Census of Agriculture, livestock, poultry, and products made up 98% of the county’s farm sales. Poultry and eggs alone brought in about $227 million, fourth-highest among Missouri counties. Cattle come next, and hay and other forage cover the most farmland.
