Long Branch State Park is the county's lake-recreation anchor

Long Branch is the lake that changes Macon County’s outdoor map. West of Macon, farm country opens into a federal reservoir, a state park, and conservation land that all touch the same water.

The manager split is the story to remember. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages Long Branch Lake for flood-damage reduction, water supply, natural resources, and downstream water-quality benefits. The lake covers 2,400 acres, with adjacent project land and a visitor center at the east end of the dam. Some project land is outgranted to Missouri State Parks for Long Branch State Park and to MDC for conservation management.

That is why one local lake can feel like several places at once. The state park is the beach, boating, trail, picnic, and campground doorway. MDC is the fishing-rule source. USACE is the dam, lake, and project-land source. A family planning a day at the water may only care where to swim or launch a boat. A landowner, hunter, angler, or camper should notice which agency runs the piece they are using.
