Northern Missouri
The Locust Creek Covered Bridge is the longest of Missouri's four survivors
The Locust Creek Covered Bridge near Laclede is one of only a handful of surviving covered bridges in Missouri, a tangible piece of 19th-century rural transportation history.
The Locust Creek Covered Bridge, a state historic site near Laclede in Linn County, is one of just a few covered bridges still standing in Missouri. It survives as a reminder of how rural roads once crossed creeks before modern concrete spans, and the creek itself has shifted course over time, so the bridge no longer carries the channel it was built for. Reaching it usually means a walk in, and the surrounding bottomland can be wet, so check conditions first. Missouri State Parks manages the site and is the authoritative source for access, the bridge’s construction date, and its place among the state’s remaining covered bridges; treat any ‘longest’ or ‘oldest’ claim as something to confirm there.
