Jefferson County real-estate tax questions end with the Collector

Jefferson County real-estate tax payment, delinquency, and receipt questions belong with the Collector after assessment work is complete.

Once Jefferson County values have been assessed and the tax roll has moved through the county process, payment questions land with the Collector. The county collector pages point residents to tax search, tax payments, land sale information, and real property tax credit information.

The county FAQ says current real-estate taxes are due on December 31 and become delinquent on January 1. That is a payment deadline, not a value-appeal deadline. If the issue is how much the assessor thinks the property is worth, start earlier with the assessor. If the issue is whether a bill is paid, where to find a receipt, or what happens after the due date, use the Collector.

This distinction matters for buyers and homeowners because the right office changes over the tax year.
