Don Robinson preserved Jefferson County canyon country
Don Robinson State Park preserves rugged Jefferson County countryside that its namesake described as wild and wooded canyon country.
Don Robinson State Park carries one of Jefferson County’s better origin stories. Don Robinson bought rugged, wooded land in the LaBarque area because he liked its “wild and wooly” canyon country, then the land became a state park after his gift.
The park is not just a patch of green near the St. Louis edge. It points to the sandstone valleys, wooded slopes, and narrow roads that still shape the western side of Jefferson County. A visitor can feel that difference quickly: this is hill-and-canyon country, not flat suburban parkland.
For a resident comparing county errands with actual place feel, Don Robinson is a reminder that Jefferson County is both a metro county and an Ozark-edge landscape.
