Iron County tax bills run through the collector

Iron County's collector handles current and delinquent property taxes, and the county says tax bills are due by December 31.

The tax trail in Ironton has two doors. The assessor handles the taxable property record and value. The collector handles payment after the bill exists.

Iron County’s collector collects and distributes current and delinquent personal-property taxes and real-estate taxes. The due date on the county tax-bill side is December 31. A missing bill in the mailbox does not erase the deadline, so this is one of those errands where waiting for paper can get a person in trouble.

Vehicle paperwork is where the split shows up fast. Missouri plate renewal often sends a resident back for proof of paid personal-property tax or a statement of nonassessment. A wrong value or account detail belongs with the assessor. A receipt, delinquent balance, payment question, or tax-sale question belongs with the collector.
