Oregon is the county seat, not Mound City
Holt County's seat is Oregon, a small town, even though Mound City is often the more recognized name to outsiders because of the nearby refuge — so courthouse business goes to Oregon.
Oregon carries the courthouse job in Holt County. It is a small town, but it is where the county courthouse and county offices sit. Mound City can be the name outsiders recognize first, partly because Loess Bluffs refuge is nearby, but county business runs through Oregon.
That means assessor, collector, recorder, and court errands point to Oregon, not to the better-known neighbor up the road. The distinction shows up in ordinary ways: property records, tax payments, deed filing, and court business all start with the county seat.
The Holt County government portal is the place for current office locations, while the Missouri State Archives helps with courthouse history. Knowing the seat saves a wrong turn toward the refuge when the errand is really a courthouse errand.
