Connor O. Fewel Conservation Area mixes springs, timber, and old mine ground

Connor O. Fewel Conservation Area in northern Henry County adds springs, timber, reclaimed mine spoils, and careful local-history context to the county page.

Connor O. Fewel Conservation Area is a small but very Henry County kind of place. MDC locates it in northern Henry County, north of Lewis on Route AC, with separate north and south units divided by private land.

The area gives the county page more than another hunting-and-hiking line. MDC describes springs, mature oak and hickory timber, crop fields, brushy draws, and reclaimed mine spoils. Its history note also places an Osage trail near the springs and says settlers used the area as a meeting place.

That mix helps a local reader understand why public land here can carry several layers at once: habitat, old mining ground, springs, and source-backed local history. Check MDC for maps and rules before visiting.
