Crowder State Park sits just west of Trenton

Crowder State Park sits just west of Trenton, close enough to the county seat that it feels like part of the local map instead of a far-off day trip. In a county where much of the land is private farm ground, the park gives people a public outdoor anchor they can point to.

The park is not huge by Missouri standards, but it has enough shape to be memorable. It covers 1,912 acres of rolling northern Missouri hills, forested and rugged in places, with more than 17 miles of trails for hiking, bicycling, backpacking, and horseback riding. Crowder Lake adds the water piece: 18 acres with fishing and boating, including bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and crappie.

For Grundy County, Crowder gives the page more than a “there is a park” fact. It explains where residents go when they want a state-managed trail, a campsite, a picnic shelter, a small lake, or a close-to-home outdoor plan.
