Franklin County's property search is an assessor starting point

Franklin County's assessor page points residents to property search for real-estate records and personal-property filing, but that is not the same as paying taxes.

Property search in Franklin County is an assessment doorway. It can help you look at real-estate records and handle personal property filing, so it is a good place to see how the county views a parcel, car, trailer, or other taxable item.

It is not the payment counter. The Assessor values and assesses property. The Collector creates tax bills and collects taxes for the taxing entities in the county. A search result may help you understand the record, but it does not answer every bill, receipt, deed, or title question.

Use the tool for the record question first. If the issue is ownership language in a deed, go to the Recorder. If the issue is a bill, receipt, or payment, go to the Collector. If the issue is value or personal property filing, stay with the Assessor in Union. Keeping those doors separate makes the online search much more useful.
