Cole County personal property lists have their own deadline

Cole County says personal property assessment lists are due to the Assessor by March 1, before the Collector sends the later tax bill.

The personal-property tax year starts earlier than the bill makes it feel.

In Cole County, the assessment form is the Assessor step. It is mailed with the tax bill in November, held until after January 1, and due by March 1. Late forms can bring penalties under state law.

That timing catches people with vehicles, trailers, business equipment, or other taxable personal property. By the time a plate-renewal problem shows up, the missed step may be months old.

Use the Assessor for the form, account, and property record. Use the Collector later for the bill, payment, and receipt. A clean March 1 assessment form makes the later tax receipt much easier to get.
