Cass County Recorder offers document search and fraud alerts
Cass County's Recorder is the land-record office, with free online document search registration and a fraud-alert sign-up for recorded names.
For Cass County land records, start with the Recorder of Deeds, not the assessor or collector. The Recorder says the office is the repository for Cass County land transactions and handles deeds, deeds of trust, plats, surveys, releases, tax liens, fixture filings, and other recorded documents.
The page also points residents to free online document search registration and to a fraud-alert system that can notify a person when something with their name or entity is recorded in the office.
That does not mean the recorder can prepare a deed or tell you whether a title is clean. The same page says the office cannot provide or prepare documents for recording and points those questions to a title company or real-estate attorney. Use the recorder for recorded documents; use professional help for legal effect.
