Peck Ranch makes northwest Carter County elk country
Peck Ranch Conservation Area is a large MDC-managed area reached by gravel roads in Carter County, with elk-viewing links and Wildlife Code area rules.
Peck Ranch is one of the reasons Carter County’s outdoor identity feels like deep Ozarks rather than a simple river-stop county. Missouri Department of Conservation lists Peck Ranch Conservation Area at more than 29,000 acres and gives directions that continue east from Winona on gravel roads to the area in Carter County.
The MDC page also links to elk driving tours and points readers to area regulations under the Wildlife Code. That combination matters: the place is scenic and memorable, but it is managed public conservation land with rules.
For a visitor, plan with the official MDC source before driving in. Check directions, hours, maps, and area regulations, and do not assume every gravel road, gate, or viewing route is open in the same way every day.
