County road questions start with the Highway Department
Cape Girardeau County road errands go better when the road is sorted first. The Highway Department has county contacts in Jackson, a county road map, a Highway 34 shed, and a road-status download. Those are the county-side tools, not a substitute for every road layer.
For a washout, gravel issue, drainage problem, or closure question, write down the road name and nearest crossroad before calling. County-maintained roads go to the Highway Department. State highways go to MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map. Streets inside Cape Girardeau, Jackson, or another city may need city public works. A clear road name and layer save the first round of phone-tag and help the question land with the right crew.
