The Katy Trail runs through Callaway County along the Missouri River
The Katy Trail State Park follows the Missouri River through Callaway County, with trailheads at Tebbetts, Mokane, and Portland for biking and walking.
Good news if you like to bike or walk: the Katy Trail runs right through Callaway County. The trail is a long rail-trail managed by Missouri State Parks, and it closely follows the Missouri River through this part of the state. Callaway County has its own trailheads where you can hop on. Tebbetts sits near mile marker 131, Mokane near mile 125, and Portland near mile 116. From there the path heads east toward Hermann. Trail conditions can change after storms or flooding, so it is worth a quick check before you go. Missouri State Parks keeps the official map, mile chart, trailhead list, and current trail conditions on its Katy Trail State Park pages. That is the place to confirm the surface, parking, mileage, and any closures before you rely on them.
